At CES, Microsoft has shown an video demonstratig IllumiRoom. IllumiRoom is still only a proof of concept design. IllumiRoom, uses room space behind you TV to show projections, thus enhancing viewing experience.
Microsoft explains it as “augments the area surrounding a television screen with projected visualizations to enhance the traditional living room entertainment experience.”
IllumiRoom uses a Kinect for Windows camera and a projector to blur the lines between on-screen content and the environment. This results in allowing us to combine our virtual and physical. For example, our system can change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences.
Microsoft look forward to make gaming more realistic by using IllumiRoom. More detailed details are expected at the CHI 2013 event held in Paris at end of April.
